Hillcroft Conservation Grazing

Cattle data sheet

Name: Hillcroft Daybreak

Daybreak

Description: Black points, smudge on side of neck. Daughter of Delilah. Born earlier on the same day as her niece, Dusk. At the age of 19 months, she was too young to put to a bull. However, she did not agree, and while grazing the New Forest, she decided she would find a bull for herself. She crossed the cattle grid onto the A31 dual carriageway -- then, after being returned to the Forest, she crossed it twice more that day. Fortunately no harm was done to her or the traffic, and eventually she was put in our yard to keep her (and everyone else) safe. There she did find a bull -- her half brother, Avocet. The result was an inbred but otherwise healthy calf, Darkness. In 2007 Daybreak moved to become a conservation grazer for the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT).
